Two Identities

I feel like I am two people stuck in one body when I apply for jobs.

Person 1 is an education Masters student who has 3 certifications through the state of Massachusetts that range from Preschool, to middle school to high school with an additional elementary school one pending.
I've been working in schools as a teacher since I was a junior in high school doing a co-op for the preschool.  Then I was a lunch aide/recess helper, a 2nd grade classroom aide, and a substitute for 6 different school systems over 8 years.

Person 2 is an amazing salesperson, supervisor, and all around customer service expert. First job was at Best Buy at 16 and worked in a form of retail/sales ever since, going to Build A Bear, Circuit City and then into restaurants working at Friendlys. Factor in work as a Resident Assistant and Orientation Leader and it shows that Person 2 is an amazingly personable sales person.

But for some reason, these two people don't look right together on a resume.

Do schools care that I helped create and implement the training program we use in all of the corporate stores for every new hire?
Does a sales marketing job care that I have passed 6 different Massachusetts Teacher Educator Licensure tests?

Obviously my objective is different for both personalities
so how do I make those two personalities live harmoniously on the paper?
Does it seem like I don't have passion for either if my resume says Looking for A or B? I feel like it should only say one...

Do I really care which track I end up on?

No. Not at all.

Would I be happy if I spent the rest of my life teaching English to high schoolers? Yep.
Would I be happier than if I worked in an office, interacting with customers all day? I don't think so.

Why do I have to be one or the other?

Book #20

When unworldly student Anastasia Steele first encountered the driven and dazzling young entrepreneur Christian Grey it sparked a sensual affair that changed both of their lives irrevocably. Shocked, intrigued, and, ultimately, repelled by Christian’s singular erotic tastes, Ana demands a deeper commitment. Determined to keep her, Christian agrees.

Now, Ana and Christian have it all—love, passion, intimacy, wealth, and a world of possibilities for their future. But Ana knows that loving her Fifty Shades will not be easy, and that being together will pose challenges that neither of them would anticipate. Ana must somehow learn to share Christian’s opulent lifestyle without sacrificing her own identity. And Christian must overcome his compulsion to control as he wrestles with the demons of a tormented past.

Just when it seems that their strength together will eclipse any obstacle, misfortune, malice, and fate conspire to make Ana’s deepest fears turn to reality.

Ok, I know, I really drank the Koolaid on this series but you know what, I'm glad I did.
The first in the series is very awkward because, honestly, who reads about super erotic encounters? I mean, if that's your cup of tea, awesome but for me, not so much. It made me feel awkward, and dare I say dirty.

But I kept reading because:
A. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
B. I wanted to know who exactly gave Christian the cigarette burns, as I wasn't exactly sure it was his birth mother, and
C. I felt ike something was going to happen but I was constantly left hanging... ( I call this Paranormal Activity Syndrome-- where you've convinced yourself something big and crazy is going to happen, and then they open the door adn nothing is there.. ya, Paranormal Activity Syndrome)

I found myself skimming through the sex scenes.  That's really not what I was reading for.  I mean, if I want to get aroused, my husband is still more than willing to oblige. (Ew I know). But despite the terrible plot line and even more terrible use of the English language (see what I did there), I have to say, I kind of enjoyed the Character development of Mr Grey and how he deals with his demons throughout the three books.

Take them as they are:
trashy romance novels that should be sold in the crappy book section of a supermarket.
Glorified Twilight fan fiction.
But, I couldn't put them down.

Ps. The whole time I read them I pictured this guy as Christian. Yes, I create the book in my head...

Although there is another actor I'm thinking of but can NOT for the life of me think of his name or remember what he's in...

Oh well, how about you.. have you read?
Who do you picture?

Ps. Come back TOMORROW for the beginning of the Mother's Day Giveaway!!

It's Not Okay

It's not okay to wake up every day wishing you were some place else.
It's not okay to feel trapped.

It's not okay to despise other people for their happiness, their good jobs or their ability to take a week long vacation.
It's not okay to feel like your job is a dead end street and you're going nowhere fast.
It's not okay to take your stress out by yelling at your husband.

It's not okay to cry in the shower because you can't handle the stress anymore.
It's not okay to question your ability to be a mother.
It's not okay to feel so exhausted that you would rather just lay in bed everyday.

It's not okay smile and pretend that everything is okay.

It's okay to always want more and it's okay to not always look perfect.
It is okay to make time for yourself.

It's okay to tell people that you are failing.
It's okay to go talk to someone about getting help.

And that's what I did.
Can I tell you I feel SO much better?
Although the doctor gave me a prescription for Prozac, I don't think I'm going to fill it.
JUst having someone to talk to and cry out everything has lifted my stress an immeasurable amount.

Do I still have the prescription just in case?
Yep.

Do I think I need it?
Nope.

But it sure felt nice to have someone tell me I wasn't overreacting, that all the stress I deal with in life is really really stressful and now, I can stop doubting myself and know that there's nothing wrong with me, just a lot going on in my life.

Target Tuesday

Today I'm showing off the sandals that Target has that I'm serious pining over!
Everyone knows I'm obsessed with sandals.
Until last year, I only bought cheap $2.50 sandals from Old Navy, but last year, being pregnant, I splurged on GREAT sandals from L.L.Bean.
I wear those constantly now but I would love to get some prettier, trendier ones for this coming summer!

Womens Xhilaration® Tennie Jeweled Flat Sandal

Women's Merona® Luz Thong Sandal

Womens Eyelet Fabric Sandal

Women's Merona® Emeline Braided Flat Sandals - Pewter

How about you?
Which are your favorites?
Are you as obsessed with sandals as I am?

How fast can you do it?

Do you remember when schools had computer classes? With your fingers on "the home row"?
And then if finished all the "real" work, you got to play Oregon trail.

Well, I was looking at a couple jobs at the University level and one of the requirements is that you must be able to type 40+ words per minute.
I didn't even know people still used that as a requirement.

But of course, then I was curious,
how many words could I type per minute?

So, like any normal person, I googled "How fast can I type?" and found this site!

My first attempt was 46, my second 51 and my third 55.

How about you?
How fast can you type?
And when do I get to play Oregon Trail?

Birthday Stuffs Part 1

Emma's birthday party is now less than 2 months away.
You have no idea how excited I am!

So obviously, I've already started getting stuff ready.

I just talked to an AMAZING photographer and he's going to do some one year pictures and cake smash pictures!
I've obviously been looking at Pinterest for some great photo ideas!

Also:
On my break today, I went down the plaza to CVS and found all the Easter candy at 75% off!
Now not everything is super Easter, some is just in a Easter packaging but the candy itself looks like it regularly does.
We are planning on doing a candy bar at Emmalee's party and was able to pick up Smarties, Sprees, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, Hershey Kisses, Salt Water Taffy, Sweettarts and Gumballs all for $9!! The 3 bags of peanut butter cups would have been more than that if I had spent normal price!!
Wooo hooo!
I mean.. it's candy.. it's not going to go bad in 6 weeks... I just need to make sure I don't eat it in the mean time!! :)

And because I started that, I felt the need to start making the Bubble Guppies decorations!
They don't actually make Bubble Guppies party stuff yet but it's nothing a little cutting and pasting can't fix!

I'm definitely excited and will keep posting more as it gets closer!

50 Shades

I did it.
I tasted the forbidden fruit of 50 Shades of Grey.

From Amazon:
When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

Did I feel dirty reading it?
Yep.

Is it written terribly?
Yep.

Did I actually stop reading it at one point because I was out in public and was convinced someone would read it over my shoulder and think it was porn?
Yep.

But I couldn't stop reading it.
Like read it in a day couldn't stop reading it.
It was like a car wreck, you know you're not supposed to stare but you can't tear your eyes away from it...

I will absolutely be reading the next two books.

Ps. It makes Book 18!!
I can't believe I'm already so close to the half way point of my goal!

Have you read it? Will you?

I've been tagged!

I was tagged!

Rosie from Craftbotic tagged me in this fun little game!

1. You must post the rules!
2. Answer the 11 questions the tagger posted for you and then create 11 new questions to ask the people you've tagged.
3. Tag 11 bloggers and link them to your post.
4. Let them know you've tagged them.

These are the 11 AMAZING blogs I have tagged:

Andrea at Love Is
Tara at fabulous but evil
Michelle at The Vintage Apple
Andrea at Life in Dawleywood
Meg at O. is Me
Amber at A Little Pink In The Cornfields
Holly at eight six eleven
Katie at The Nerdy Katie
Heather at Blonde... Undercover Blonde
Cassandra at Blue Jeans and Flip Flops
Ashlyn at Let It Be Beautiful

These are my 11 questions to them:

1. Why did you start blogging?
2. Do you have any blogs you read daily?
3. If you could buy any 1 item, what would it be?
4. Where is your dream vacation to?
5. Coffee or tea?
6. What is your least favorite household chore?
7. What book are you currently reading?
8. What is your candy weakness?
9. If you could get a million dollar gift card to one store, which would it be?
10. Do you ever print your pictures out? Or are they only on the computer?
11. How many states have you visited?

Here are Rosie's questions and my answers:

1. What is the best thing about where you live?

Ha! Ok, that question is a bit of a joke because most people know I can't stand living where we live and it's all because I'm a snob.  I grew up in a very different community but we live here because it's affordable and was close to where we were working.  Now it's just the place we are living in.  Granted I love my actual apartment, but if it was anywhere else, I'd love it more.

2. Which of your personality features can we see in your blog?

My sarcasm.
My ever optimism (most of the time).
My love for my daughter.
My extreme need for finding a good deal, and then sharing it.

3. What is your favourite item of clothing right now?

Anything that makes it look like I lost 10 pounds.
I kid, but not really.
I'm loving a couple pairs of jeans I have found that ft my post baby body and am obsessing over some Mossimo tissue tee's that fit wonderfully and all colorful and fun!
My newest kick is statement necklaces. You might see a few of those here or there.

4.  Who influences your writing?

Mostly the baby. I write about her a bit.  This blog started as a way to keep everyone in the loop, see how she's growing but now it's turned into my 'me time'.  I pretend shop, meet new people and vent when I need to because apparently there aren't a ton of 26 year old working moms near me and all my friends haven't quite hit mommyhood yet so I feel isolated a lot, until I come on here and find all the other moms who know what I'm going through.

5. How do your family, partners, children react to your blogging?

I was surprised to find out my husband actually reads it! He's very supportive of me and it. I work a lot and then watch Emmalee all night so my blog is my escape. He knows I love writing but I'd never be good enough to print so this is a happy medium.

I've had a few people message me and say they've been there or done that, especially with harder topics like applying for welfare, and it makes me happy to see that people are vested in my writing.

6. What has been your favourite blogging experience to date?

I think it would have to be when my daughter was born.  Her birth story is written down forever.  My mom has told me stories of my birth but having it written, seems so much more real I guess.
Second would be when Lamaze asked me to review a tummy time mat and blog about it!

7. Where in the world would you most like to visit?

Can Europe count as one place?
Rome, Spain, Italy, Ireland, United Kingdom.
All those places.
With a quick skip to Australia?
Maybe?

8. How many hours do you spend online each day?

On an actual computer, I'm lucky to get an hour after Emmalee goes to bed. That's usually when I try to accomplish my to-do list for the night- replying to e-mails, new blog posts, etc.
However, I have a smart phone so I'll scroll through Twitter and FB during the day. Now that I have a Nook Color, I may be able to blog a bit more during the day but it's mostly just at night for now.

9. What is your biggest dream?

Right now, to get a 'real job' and a house, but I don't see either happening so I'll settle with being someone my daughter looks up to. No matter how much or how little we have, if she aspires to be like me, I think I've done okay.

10. Cats or dogs?

Dogs. Always. Cats suck. Sorry.
We have two pups.

11. Tea or Coffee?

Tea.
Preferably French Vanilla or Iced Chai.
Yum.

So there you have it, a little about me! Is there anything else you want to know?

The Great Debate

My hair is growing out and right about now, when I have a little bit of blonde root growth I struggle with deciding if I'm going to make it dark again or go back to the blonde that my hair desperately wants to be.

Me as a blonde.
Me as a brunette.

Help me pick.

Target Tuesday

I have to say I went to Target yesterday and splurged!
I bought 7 tanks/gauzy shirts for the spring and summer.
The best part, I paid $22 for ALL OF THEM.
Love.

Clearance plus coupons = means I can buy myself things that fit properly without feeling guilty.
Amazing.

But I was hoping to find some long necklaces on clearance, and came up short so here's a few they carry online that I'll keep crossing my fingers end up with a red sticker on them!

Double Disc Pendant Necklace

I'm not sure what started this for me, but I just can't get enough!

10 months!! Yikes!

In two months she'll be a whole year old! Yikes!

I feel like Emmalee has grown by leaps and bounds in the past month.
She's becoming such a little person with a huge personality.
Always laughing and smiling.
So let's see....

At 10 months old you...

... feed yourself, all the time. You even use a sippy cup all by yourself and only use bottles for milk while mommy is at work. Your meals are usually what we are eating. Last night you had pasta and veggies, for breakfast you eat scrambled eggs, potatoes, ham, or waffles. You always want to eat what mommy and daddy have but your current favorite foods are mandarin oranges and string cheese!! Oh, and you're still breastfeeding 3 times a day!!

You can pull yourself to stand and if someone holds your hands, you'll move your feet but you can't wlak on your own yet. You are very impressed with your ability to stand and do it all the time, in the tubby, in bed, even in the middle of the floor where there's nothing to hold on to so you end up doing a very funny giraffe looking walk.

You have a teeth!! Two itty bitty baby ones on the bottom front of your mouth. You won't let me take a picture of them, but I love that I can see them!
You are starting to say words but I don't know if you know what they mean.  We sometimes here a "mama" or "dada" but it's mostly just random syllables still. With the amount you talk without real words, I can only imagine how much you are going to jabber when you have a true vocabulary.

Your favorite games to play right now are peek a boo, swinging the door open and closed,  moving things from one side of you to the other, and back, and pulling everything out of buckets.

As far as clothes, you are still wearing 9 month stuff but we've started trying to wear 12 month pants.  Your legs are so long but your waist is too tiny so they fall off if you crawl.

A few of your least favorite things: Having your hair washed, the vacuum, any motorized toys that sound like your vacuum.
A few of your favorite things: "helping" with the laundry, emptying your toy boxes onto the floor, kisses from Bailey, reading your books, taking tubbies, going for a walk in your car, and eating!

It's crazy to think that in just 2 short months, she'll be a year old!
Guess I should start addressing invitations!
